Just Add Salt – Halotherapy

In the 1800’s a Polish doctor discovered that the men working in the Polish salt mines rarely suffered from breathing, sinus, or respiratory conditions. Salt therapy rooms, like ours at Waterside Day Spa, recreates or mimics the same environment of a salt mine by increasing the density of salt air with a halogenerator.

Surrounded by naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial salt, the salt rooms become a sterile environment, making them one of the cleanest places to relax and rejuvenate. Part of what makes our salt suite unique is 750 lbs of Himalayan salt on the wall, along with the halogenerator, which works to eliminate allergens, asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis, ear infections, and stress, while also boosting your immune system and helping you to sleep better and feel more energized throughout the day.

The negative ion environment that this creates is what makes out salt room so relaxing.
Thunderstorms, waterfalls, snow, and waves crashing on the beach are all examples of negative ion environments. Positive ions are found in dust, humidity, and pollution. Positive ions are also emitted from electronics such as cells phones, tv’s, and microwaves. This room is completely free of those pollutants and toxins we are surrounded by daily.

During your salt therapy (halotherapy) session, try alternating breaths between your nose and your mouth. When breathing thru your nose, try alternating nostrils for 3-4 breaths at a time. This will help the salt aerosol travel the best throughout your entire respiratory tract to increase those fabulous anti-inflammatory benefits!

Once a week is ideal to keep your immune system strong. However, please not that halotherapy is not recommended when sick, contagious, or coming down with a cold. It is most effective when used as a health routine to prevent the cold, flu, and other viruses.

Salt Therapy for IMMUNITY

IMMUNITY   Cold + Flu Prevention

A natural, holistic, and drug free approach to maintaining a strong and healthy immune system awaits. Dry Salt Therapy can help to relieve and eliminate the symptoms associated with cold + flu, such as sinus pressure, headaches, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, coughing or frequent infections.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Plan for a restorative 45 minutes. Dress comfortably.

During a Salt Room Session, a scientifically proven machine called a halogenerator disperses micron sized particles of salt into the atmosphere. When inhaled, the salt works like a sponge to absorb bacteria, germs, inflammation and mucus in the sinuses and respiratory tract so the body can expel it.  The salt therapy suite is about 72 degrees, with no humidity. Dry salt air is naturally anti-bacterial + anti-inflammatory. Depending on your current health and personal goals, most feel relief from symptoms as quickly as 1 – 3 sessions.

The Salt Room accommodates four people at a time. By appointment only.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Prevention is key when it comes to maintaining a healthy immune system. We recommend coming every 1-2 weeks to keep your immune system strong. If already experiencing some symptoms, daily is recommended for the quickest recovery. Please note, the salt room is discouraged when active or contagious and most effective when used for prevention.
